MB Magnetic drum

MB Magnetic drum

The magnetic drums are used for automatic and continuous removal of magnetic particles from bulk materials. The magnetic system based on permanent magnets is easy to operate, it reliably separates tramp metal and protects the subsequent machinery (e. g. shredders, mills, grinders) from damage.

Design of the magnetic drum separator

The key part of the machine consists of a half-moon shaped magnetic nucleus (made from either ferrite or neodymium NdFeB magnets) and of an external drum shell from stainless steel that revolves on a shaft around the fix magnetic cores. As soon as the bulk material reaches the drum, the magnetic field attracts and holds ferrous particles to the drum shell. As the drum rotates, non-magnetic material falls freely from the stainless steel shell while ferrous particles are held firmly until they are carried out of the magnetic field.

Installation of the magnetic drum

The drum separator is usually placed under a belt conveyor output, under a feeding hopper or it can be also connected to the piping system. The magnetic drum is used either separately or with a housing, which is terminated by two discharge outputs in the lower part (for cleaned material and separated contaminants).

The drum separator is used to recover tramp and fine iron from dry bulk materials (the separator dimensions and also the magnets' types correspond with the properties of the material being processed). The advantage of permanent ferrite magnets is their long lifetime and durability. For very fine materials, special applications (e.g. in the food industry) or for difficult-to-flow materials we can recommend the application of extraordinarily strong neodymium magnets.
